Washington Drug Card Providing Residents a Prescription for Tough Economic Times
|
(HealthNewsDigest.com) – OLYMPIA, Wash., — Washington residents have saved over $2.6 million on prescription medications since the launch of the free statewide prescription assistance program. Washington Drug Card, which offers free discount drug cards to residents, was launched in August, 2008. The program has no restrictions to membership, no income requirements, no age limitations and there are no applications to fill out. Anyone interested in receiving a free card can visit www.WashingtonDrugCard.com.
Washington Drug Card was launched to help the uninsured and underinsured residents of Washington afford their prescription medications. However, the program can also be used by people who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible health plans. Additionally, people who have prescription coverage can use this program for non-formulary or non-covered drugs. This includes people enrolled in Medicare Part D.
“Washington Drug Card has helped many residents get the medications that they so desperately need. We will continue our efforts to create awareness for the program and to establish new card distribution sites so that all residents will have access to this program,” said Washington Drug Card, Program Development Director, Eric Brown.
Washingtonians can download a “FREE” card by visiting www.WashingtonDrugCard.com. Anyone not able to access the website, or otherwise obtain a member card, can simply visit any Safeway pharmacy location and ask the pharmacist to process their prescription through the Washington Drug Card. The card is accepted at over 50,000 pharmacies around the country. Washington residents can download a free card, search drug pricing, and locate participating pharmacies at www.WashingtonDrugCard.com.
