Integrative Medicine Is Healthcare Reform

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Our current model of healthcare is based on Pasteur’s germ theory. His remarkable achievements in identifying causative microorganisms as the basis for infectious disease form the bedrock upon which modern Western allopathic medicine was built.

But what is allopathic medicine? According to Webster’s dictionary, allopathic medicine is defined as: “a method of medical practice which seeks to cure disease by the production of a condition of the system either different from or opposite to the condition produced by the disease.” In other words, we wait until it’s broken and then we try to fix it. And while this approach may work for our legal system where you cannot be arrested, tried and jailed until you commit a crime, it is not very efficient in the true prevention of disease.

At this point there are two important distinctions to be made. What we call preventive medicine now is merely early detection. It prevents nothing. It merely recognizes a disease state a little earlier in hopes of providing a better outcome. Secondly, we live in an age where according to the CDC, more than 70% of all deaths in the U.S. are accounted for by chronic, degenerative diseases and not acute infections. So we need a new approach to medicine, one that lends itself to:

Discovering and correcting the multi-factorial underlying causes of chronic disease states
Recognizing that controlling the symptoms does not cure the disease

Helping the public realize that health is not found in the prescription bottle and that poly-pharmacy oftentimes creates more problems than it cures
Strengthening our organs by nourishing our cells to assist them in resisting disease both chronic and acute

Fortunately, such an approach is currently available and has been for the last 50 or so years. The approach looks at inflammation as the “resident evil” of chronic illness. By tending to inflammation in its early stages, we can avoid if not eliminate many “diseases of aging” that are causing the slow dwindling of our health in our later years. Our human genome was actually designed to last us 150 years.

It is a sure thing that none of us are getting out of here alive. But wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could consistently get 100 years of a 100% vibrant life instead of the 100 years of 50% to 60% vibrancy that many of our age now experience? Who wants to spend 40% of their life incapable of enjoyment, play, wonder and awareness? Here’s a few quick ways of how to do it:

Recognize that food is your first and best medicine
Eat whole, richly colored fruits and vegetables
Avoid simple starches, sugars, trans fats, and processed foods
Add a high quality daily multi-vitamin and mineral complex
Sleep is a great anti-inflammatory and it helps the body recover. Get 7 to 9 hours
Take a cat nap during the day
Make time to rest and play
Remember to exercise

I will guarantee you that you’ll reduce your inflammatory load and feel better with these few simple steps. I also recognize that you may need a little bit more help in uncovering the reasons for your disease. For that I recommend seeing a healthcare professional that is amenable to assisting in nourishing your cells through the use of:

Bio-identical hormones
Chelation therapy
IV nutritional supplements

It’s been said that the definition of idiocy is doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting different results each time. We’ve been practicing medicine the same way for more than 100 years despite the fact that the nature of disease has changed from that of an acute infectious nature, to that of a chronic inflammatory nature. Is it not time we changed our approach lest we too be labeled?
