(HealthNewsDigest.com) – “Our Foundation raises awareness about Craniosynostosis, supports and educates families whose children are affected by Craniosynostosis. We also provide grants to organizations and institutions working in the field of Craniosynostosis,” said Laura Posada, President and Co-Founder of The Jorge Posada Foundation. “The work of our Foundation is rooted in our own personal experience with Craniosynostosis, which affects thousands of families globally. We are very pleased to be able to provide funding grants to organizations and institutions around the country that are working closely with our Foundation.”

“As a result of our Foundation’s recent 8th Annual Heroes4Hope Gala, we are pleased to announce that proceeds from the Gala will be donated to the following organizations that assist children and families with Craniosynostosis,” said Jorge Posada, Co-Founder of the Jorge Posada Foundation.

The Following Jorge Posada Foundation Grant Recipients Are:

Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, The Bronx, New York

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, Paterson, New Jersey

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pennsylvania

Children’s Craniofacial Association in Dallas, Texas

“Craniosynostosis is a congenital or birth defect that causes an abnormally shaped skull and may affect up to 1 in every 2,000 births. It occurs when an infant’s sutures fuse too early and it affects the growth of the brain,” said Michelle T. Gittlen, Executive Director of The Jorge Posada Foundation. “Often, the end result is an infant with an abnormally shaped head. Craniosynostosis may involve the premature closure of a single suture or multiple sutures in the case of a syndrome. It is important to note that the key to treating an infant with Craniosynostosis is accurate early diagnosis and medical treatment consisting of reconstructive surgery.”

The Jorge Posada Foundation is a non-profit organization established by the New York Yankees’ All-Star Catcher, Jorge Posada and his wife, Laura. Their son, Jorge Luis, was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis when he was just ten days old. The Jorge Posada Foundation provides support to families whose child is affected by Craniosynostosis, a congenital or birth defect that causes an abnormally shaped skull. www.jorgeposadafoundation.org
