(HealthNewsDigest.com) – WASHINGTON, D.C. – In anticipation of Thursday’s Senate vote on health reform legislation, Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, urged senators to advance the bill. If the Senate approves the bill following the House approval of its own health reform measure in November, a final proposal would be drafted by congressional negotiators for lawmakers to consider early next year.
DeAnn Friedholm, the director of Consumers Union’s health reform campaign, said, “The Senate bill would finally stop insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing health conditions. The bill lays the groundwork for an enormous number of ways to save money and save lives in the future. It extends the life of Medicare and helps protect every insured American family from catastrophic, out-of-pocket costs. We look forward to working with policymakers as the final proposal takes shape.”
