(HealthNewsDigest.com) – LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Fresh from the farmer’s market or grocer, just-picked salad greens and ripe fruit can have a powerful effect on our health, but many Americans don’t enjoy them often enough. The answer: making fresh produce more appealing, convenient and economical with the 2010 GE Profile™ and GE® side-by-side refrigeration lines.
GE Profile side-by-side refrigerators with the ClimateKeeper2™ dual-evaporator system create ideal conditions to maintain maximum freshness of fruits, vegetables and other fresh foods longer, so food isn’t wasted. Spinach salad is still crisp and tender after several days, and lemon slices stay bright and moist even five days later.
The ClimateKeeper2 system creates two separate climates to maintain food flavor and quality, a humid fresh-food compartment to retain the moisture in fresh produce, and a more arid freezer side to reduce the freezer’s defrost cycles. On certain models, a single-evaporator ClimateKeeper system maintains even, accurate temperatures to protect a variety of foods.
With clean, crisp ALL LED lighting, choosing healthy snacks from the fresh food and freezer sections of the refrigerator is simpler than ever. The ALL LED lighting system, which lights the from the front, maximizes visibility, making it easy to read ingredients and nutritional information before taking items out of the refrigerator. This system lights the unit from 10 seperate lighting locations, while a typical refrigeration does so from only three.
Each lighting center is recessed into the refrigerator wall, so you gain real useable capacity for storage of additional foods.
The food inside isn’t the only thing that’s fresh: the look is more modern, too, with backlit stainless steel buttons and LCD readouts on the control panel. For convenience, the GE Profile line also features a stylish new Arctica® icemaker that holds 40 percent more ice than previous GE Profile icemakers, with a QuickIce™ feature that speeds up the ice-making process by 50 percent. A handy TurboCool™ setting restores proper temperatures quickly after the door is opened.
Each GE Profile side-by-side model is ENERGY STAR®-qualified and ADA compliant. Models will be available spring 2010 with MSRP that range from $1,399 to $2,799*.
Consider the costs of wasting fresh foods
About 40 percent of all food purchased by Americans gets tossed, according to a recent survey**. With the average family of four spending $170*** per week on food, that adds up to more than $3,500 per year in food that we purchase but never get a chance to eat.
GE side-by-side refrigeration prevents unnecessary waste and helps save money with advanced food-preservation systems. The ClimateKeeper system features four electronic sensors for constant monitoring of foods, along with an air tower and external, easy-to-read controls with actual temperature display. Refrigerators with the ClimateGuard system feature three electronic sensors and easy-to-use exterior controls. A freshness center helps maintain flavor with two humidity-controlled crisper drawers. The new Arctica icemaker adds convenience.
In addition to saving money at the grocery, ENERGY STAR®-qualified GE models can help reduce utility bills. Energy efficiency ratings exceed U.S. Department of Energy standards by up to 30 percent to protect food with less electricity.
In 2010, GE also offers a 29-cu.-ft. refrigerator designed to provide an additional three cubic feet of capacity while still fitting into a traditional side-by-side footprint. GallonPLUS door bins in the door and large shelves provide plenty of room for storing fresh food and beverages. An ALL LED Profile version of the 29′ will be available as well.
GE models will be available spring 2010 with MSRP that range from $1,699 to $1,999. For more information about GE and GE Profile side-by-side refrigeration, please visit geappliances.com.
