Largest consumer publication in the U.S. for people with cancer Wins PM360 Magazine’s 2010 Trailblazer Award

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – DALLAS, Oct. 7 — CURE magazine, a free publication for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, was awarded the title of “Best Consumer Healthcare Publication” byPM360 magazineduring its 2010 Trailblazer Awards reception on Sept. 24, 2010 in New York City. The annual competition recognizes outstanding achievement and innovation in healthcare marketing, but this was the first year PM360 has included a category for “Best Consumer Healthcare Publication.”
Nominated alongside Crohn’sAdvocate magazine and WebMD the magazine, CURE is honored to have won the award that marks the 31st time it has been recognized nationally within its field–making CURE the most recognized direct-to-patient magazine in the country.
PM360’s publisher, Anna Stashower, gives praise to this year’s Trailblazer Award winners by recognizing that “trailblazers are individuals who are not afraid to take risks” and that each of the winning initiatives displayed “outstanding leadership qualities, innovative thinking, and dedication to improving patients’ lives.”
Just days before receiving the news that CURE had won the award for “Best Consumer Healthcare Publication,” CURE’s editor-at-large, Kathy LaTour, was notified that she won the magazine division of the American Cancer Society High Plains Division 2010 Media Awards. The High Plains Division serves Hawaii, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Guam. LaTour, a 24-year breast cancer survivor was recognized for her feature “Sleepless in Seattle, San Antonio, and St. Louis,” which addresses the issue of sleep disturbances for cancer survivors.
“CURE empowers cancer patients and their families with information that will help them throughout the cancer journey–from the first day of treatment and for the rest of their lives,” says LaTour. “The greatest compliment we can receive is from our readers, but being recognized by our peers and by the cancer community with awards such as these reinforces our work and helps us to continue on with our mission.”
