(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Authorities charged Jared Lee Loughner with five federal counts — two for murder and three for attempted murder. The 22-year-old suspected gunman allegedly shot U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others outside a Tucson Safeway supermarket as the congresswoman was meeting with constituents. Six of the victims, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl, died. “This is an attack on out institutions and our way of life,” Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller said Sunday at a news briefing held at the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Tucson.
Earlier, the sheriff’s department cleared a man who had been considered a possible second suspect in the shooting spree. Authorities said they had identified the man as a cab driver who had brought Loughner to the scene, but had no involvement in the shooting.
