(HealthNewsDigest.com) – WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 7) — LeadingAge, the country’s foremost association of non-profit organizations dedicated to expanding the world of possibilities for aging, will mark its 50th anniversary at the “Celebrate Age” conference October 17-19 in Washington, D.C. With more than 10,000 attendees, “Celebrate Age” is the largest conference in its field.
“I’m thrilled to welcome folks to Washington as we celebrate this important milestone and the growing possibilities available to Americans as they age,” Larry Minnix, LeadingAge President and CEO, said. “With more than 200 education sessions and speakers like former Irish President Mary Robinson, poet Maya Angelou, and author Elie Wiesel, our conference will be the must-attend event of the year.”
Another highlight of this celebration is the “Idea House,” a 5,600-square-foot model home representing the future of senior housing. Designed with interactivity, socialization and changing mental and physical needs in mind, the house features the latest in senior housing technology and universal design from more than a dozen companies.
“From high-tech medication dispensers to height-adjustable cabinets that lower so that people in wheelchairs can access them, technology and design have converged to make aging easier — and safer — in today’s modern world,” Minnix said. “We are pleased to offer a vision that can be within reach of every older person in America.”
The “Celebrate Age” conference will also host the finals of the National Senior League Bowling Championship Nintendo Wii Bowling Championship. More than 100 teams and more than 600 bowlers nationwide competed all year for the chance to vie for the crown. Games held throughout the conference will determine who comes out as the winner.
“The largest-ever generation of American consumers — the Baby Boomers — is dramatically changing the way we age,” Minnix said. “Innovative technologies, programs and other advancements offer an extremely bright future for Americans as they age. We can’t wait to celebrate that future this fall.”
