(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Low-energy plagues most people today, reaching well beyond the stereotypical couch potato. Be it stress, advancing age, work-life balance, multi-tasking, menopause, weight, diet, endless hours at the computer, or a bad environment, physicians are hearing now more than ever: “Doc, I need more energy!”
But, what if simply breathing in a different way for just ten minutes a day could change everything? What if a set of quick breathing exercises could provide staggering amounts of stamina and improved health while making you feel and look younger—all without yoga mats, Spandex attire, personal coaches, exercise machines or athleticism on your part?
That, in a nutshell, sums up The Power of Prana: Breathe Your Way to Health and Vitality (Sounds True, July 2011), the first book to feature in detail the Nine Energizing Breaths, an exceedingly simple to learn and—until now—rare energy-generating technique based on traditional longevity wisdom from Tibet. This ancient technique has not only been endorsed by many leading doctors and healthcare practitioners, but is increasingly finding its way into modern hospitals, offices and even professional sports locker rooms. (Heisman Trophy winner and Miami Dolphins running back—now with the Baltimore Ravens—Ricky Williams swears by it for keeping him in the game after ten years with the NFL and his first pain-medication-free season ever in 2010.)
For thousands of years Eastern medicine has used the body’s own natural energy or life-force— called prana in India and chi in China—to accelerate the body’s own ability to heal and revitalize itself. The Power of Prana was created by Los Angeles-based Stephen Co (one of only two Certified Master Pranic Energy Healers in the world); board-certified urologist and surgeon Eric B. Robins, MD (who integrates pranic techniques into his traditional practice), and writer John Merryman.
The Power of Prana is a concise how-to book with plenty of examples, anecdotes, and photos that enable the reader to quickly perform the routine and benefit immediately. The book also provides clear and succinct background information on why the Nine Energizing Breaths are so powerful and effective, as well as the fascinating history of their development and inner teachings behind them. A separate companion CD by Stephen Co, designed to complement the book called Power Breathing: Prana Practices for Health and Vitality (September 2011), talks listeners through the energy boosting routine along with other powerful meditations and study guides.
Designed for people who don’t have the time or inclination to learn complicated chi kung sets, tai chi forms, yogic postures, or breathing patterns, The Power of Prana and Power Breathing show how to boost energy in as little time as possible during the day or enjoy more long-term health benefits. At the same time, all exercises are highly adaptable and will complement any spiritual, breathing, exercise, movement, or energy practice already in use.
The Nine Energizing Breaths were reportedly introduced to the West by Edwin J. Dingle (also known as Ding Le Mei), a British cartographer who learned the exercises in the early part of last century while traveling in Tibet. The exercises are also part of a larger body of esoteric knowledge shared by many spiritual teachers, including Stephen Co’s teacher, Grandmaster Choa Kok Sui, who developed the systems of Pranic Healing (energy healing) and Arhatic Yoga (a synthesis of yogas). Grandmaster Choa simplified these powerful exercises to make them easier to perform by transforming the original hour-long routine into a ten-minute set that’s just as effective at enhancing stamina, emotional balance, mental clarity, and youthfulness.
*NOTE: Women who are pregnant or think they might be pregnant should check with their physician before performing any of the breathing or physical exercises and should not perform the meditations (which are featured in other parts of the book and CD). You should always check with your physician before starting this or any new exercise program or breathing routine. This is especially important for people who have any preexisting health conditions, such as high blood pressure, migraines, or heart or lung ailments.
