(HealthNewsDigest.com) – “The passing of C. Everett Koop, M.D., gives us an opportunity to reflect on the positive, lasting impact he had on the health of our nation. His service came at an important time for public health in our country, and his work to educate the public about HIV transmission and the need for compassionate treatment of HIV patients made a significant difference that is still felt today. Dr. Koop also took on the scourge of smoking and helped educate Americans about the dire health effects of tobacco.
“Dr. Koop will also be remembered for his work as a pediatric surgeon, especially his pioneering work on conjoined twins. The AMA extends condolences to the Koop family, as we honor the role Dr. Koop played in improving public health in the United States.”
