(HealthNewsDigest.com) – The baby boomers have done it again. First, they revolutionized the diaper industry when they were born en masse from 1946 to 1964, and now they are giving the aging process a facelift. Baby boomers don’t feel old, they don’t act old and they refuse to look old!
You’ve probably heard the catch phrase “50 is the new 30” by now. By and large, you can thank the boomers for pushing this anti-aging agenda forward.
It’s catching on too. A new survey of 500 women aged 45 to 60 by The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) found that on average, 69% of women age 45-60, reported feeling at least six years younger than their chronological age.
That said 70% of women stated that a big birthday did affect how they feel about their looks. Twenty four percent were most concerned with looking their real age, with sagging cheeks or eye bags (39%), fine lines and wrinkles (33%) and the dreaded “turkey neck” effect (28%) topping their list of concerns, the survey showed.
Respondents are not above a little nip here or tuck there to slow down the visible signs of aging on their faces. In fact, 72% of the women surveyed have tried skin peels, while 50% have had injections of neurotoxins or fillers, and 15% have had cosmetic facial surgery.
The findings are no surprise to Edwin F. Williams, III, M.D., F.A.C.S., a facial plastic surgery in Latham, NY. “Women in their fifties are confident, but they are also very comfortable in taking steps toward allowing them to look as young as they feel,” he says
Michael Persky, MD, facial plastic surgeon in Encino, Calif says that “50 is the new 30” may be a slight exaggeration. “Maybe 50 is the new 39 is more accurate,” he says. Still “many women (and men) in their 40’s and 50’s are taking advantage of the advances in facial plastic surgery to look as young on the outside as they feel on the inside,” he says.
Today facial plastic surgery is not only less invasive, but it also provides natural-looking results. “Today’s patients desire to look their best in a natural manner,” he says. “The most minimal treatment with BOTOX® can make a few wrinkles disappear, resulting in patients feeling better about themselves, having increased self-esteem and confidence. “
Other popular non-surgical procedures among this age-defying group include Ultherapy® to tighten and tone turkey necks and drooping brows, EvolastinTM(ePrime) to lift and restore volume to sagging lower faces, and injections of Sculptra® Aesthetic to smooth out marionette lines and chin wrinkles with results that can last up to two years.
