(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Facial implants are designed to enhance your natural features and make you look and feel better about your appearance. There are different types of facial implants available for the chin, cheek, and jawline. These implants can be customized to fit each patient and complement their appearance. Some people consider facial implants because they are unhappy with the features they were born with or how they have been altered due to aging or injury. Here is some information about the different types of facial implants available.
Chin Implants
Chin implants are designed to enhance the size and shape of the chin. They are custom fitted for each patient and the procedure usually takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete. The surgeon will either make an incision around the lower lip inside of the mouth or on the skin underneath the chin to place the implant. The area will be taped after the procedure to reduce swelling and sutures can be removed within 5-7 days after the procedure. If the physician placed the implant through the mouth, then the sutures will dissolve on their own. There may be some mild pain and discomfort after the procedure, but it should get better as time goes on. The physician may also provide some special instructions to manage your oral hygiene during that period.
Cheek Implants
Cheek implants are designed to accentuate the cheek bones. The cheek implant procedure typically takes 30-45 minutes. An incision can be made inside of the upper lip or lower eyelids and a pocket will be formed to place the implant in the cheeks. Some people get cheek implants along with other procedures like the forehead lift or facelift. After the procedure, there will be some dressings and sutures in the area that will either dissolve or be removed within a week or so. The recovery process can vary, but the patient may experience some mild discomfort when moving the mouth. The physician will also provide some special instructions to care for your dental/oral hygiene after the procedure if the implant was inserted through the upper lip.
Jawline Implants
Jawline implants are custom fitted implants that are placed along the jawline to provide more definition. This procedure usually takes 1-2 hours. The implants are inserted through the lower lip on either side and a small pocket is created to fit the implant. The physician will close the incision with dissolving sutures. It is normal to experience some mild discomfort after the procedure when eating and talking. The physician will be sure to give you information about how to care for yourself during the recovery period.
