25th Edition of Annual Report Reveals State-by-State Health Trends
(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Rising rates of obesity and diabetes among Americans are threating quality of life, despite continued progress on several health measures, according to United Health
The 25th edition of the Rankings finds that Americans are continuing to improve on key metrics, including smoking, which declined by 3% this year. However, after showing encouraging results last year, obesity and physical inactivity rates increased in 2014, marking the continuation of a troubling trend with significant repercussions for our country. Obesity increased 7% from 27.6% to 29.4% of adults who are obese, and physical inactivity increased 3% from 22.9% to 23.5% of adults who did not participate in physical activity in the last 30 days. To mark the 25th year, report authors also compared Americans’ overall health today and the progress made since the first Rankings were released in 1990.
The United Health Foundation’s America’s Health Rankings® report is the longest running annual assessment of our nation’s health on a state-by-state basis. Over time, it has evolved from a source of information into a robust, interactive tool that urges all populations and communities to act. This year, United Health Foundation is introducing new online tools to help individuals dive deeper into important health trends, including a “Change My Rank” application that allows states to see how changing their rank in individual key measures can impact their overall ranking.
