(HealthNewsDigest.com) – There are a lot of issues that can arise when you feel unhappy or uncomfortable with your physical appearance. This dissatisfaction might adversely affect a person’s morale and self-confidence, or even lead to depression. Therefore, the need arises to take steps to regain their self-image sooner rather than later.
Experience beyond measure
To decide on an important choice like cosmetic surgery, it is essential to make sure that the person performing the procedure is not only adequately qualified but is sufficiently experienced and skilled. To fit the bill, Dr. Andrew Campbell has decades worth of experience as well as multiple board certifications to his name.
In addition to surgical methods like Blepharoplasty and various types of face-lifts, Dr. Campbell has advanced qualifications in non-invasive laser procedures such as skin resurfacing.
What is Blepharoplasty and who can have it?
There is no minimum age for someone to consider getting an eyelid procedure. If someone notices a swollen or puffed-up appearance to the eyes they can consider correcting it with an eye-lid surgery also known as Blepharoplasty.
The puffed-up appearance to the eyes is caused by either the built-up of fatty tissues in the eye-lids or loss of collagen-which is a protein in the body that provides the skin with elasticity. Sometimes both of these factors can combine to cause the eyes to look baggy and tired. Genetics, environmental factors, health issues or simply the process of aging are some of the common causes of this problem. However, with Blepharoplasty, the puffy appearance of the upper eye-lids or the bags under the eyes can be greatly reduced.
When dealing with this procedure, two individual approaches are considered for the surgery of the upper eye-lids and the lower eye-lids. For the upper eye-lids a small incision is made along the natural crease of the lid. This minimizes the visibility of the subsequent scar from the operation. Fatty tissue is extracted from this incision and excess skin is removed to give a tighter, younger appearance. The incision is carefully closed with sutures after an adequate amount of tissues are removed.
For the lower eye-lid, the procedure is slightly different compared to the upper lid. An incision is made on the inside of the eye-lid rather than the outside. This is because of a lack of a natural crease on the bottom eyelid where the surgical scar can be hidden. Another difference is that the amount of fatty tissue removed is less than that when the procedure is done on the upper eye-lid. The tissue is repositioned more than it is removed. If too much tissue is taken out the appearance would be a sunken, hollow look under the eyes. Balancing the tissue under the eye-lid is a more appropriate method to reduce the puffiness while retaining a youthful, fuller look.
Before and after the operation
It is absolutely necessary to discuss the possibilities with the doctor before committing to a procedure. This consultation would not only provide the surgeon with an idea of what it is that is desired by the patient, but the patient would able to develop a realistic expectation from the operation. This consultation is also important to inform the doctor of any medical conditions that the patient might have.
The doctor will prepare a plan specific to the patient which would include the pre surgery preparations and post-surgery care. After the operation the patient will notice swelling around the eyes and blurry vision. This clears within days and noticeable results began to develop by the end of the first week. With appropriate care the rejuvenating effects of this procedure can last for many years to come.
