Face lift procedure
The traditional face lift procedure is decided after a through consultation session with the patient. This procedure is involved in providing a younger appearance to patients whose face has lost some of its elastic collagen proteins. As a result connective tissues, fatty tissues and skin start to sag in the face and neck region. The patient would be put under using intravenous sedation and a local anesthetic is administered.
Several incisions made at the hair line and around the ears for tissue extraction, repositioning and skin tightening. Excess tissues are removed and the skin is pulled to remove some of the age related wrinkles. This would provide a younger appearance and the repositioning of the fatty tissues will give a fuller appearance as well. If discussed during the consultation session, a further procedure can be performed by making an incision under the chin to remove excess skin and stretching it to reduce wrinkles around the neck region.
After the procedure is complete, a face bandage is applied to the patient. This is to prevent agitation and possible infection of the sutures. At this time the face would feel taught, swollen and sore however it should subside in several days.
Occasionally, a draining tube would be required to extract excess fluid built up in the facial region. This is a normal reaction to the procedure and is short lived.
Post Operation Care
Pain is an obvious companion to a surgical procedure and the patient might also experience discomfort and tightness of the skin. Taking regular dosage of pain-killer medication could help subside some of the discomfort and pain.
A fortnight after the procedure, the swelling would have subsided to the extent that it feels almost normal. However if there is still any swelling or signs of infection the patient would be required to contact their doctor for a check-up.
The patient would have regular consultation sessions with the surgeon to gauge the recovery process. A full recovery is expected to take anything from six months to about nine months depending upon the patient and the care given to tending the sutures. Once recovered, a face lift could shave ten years off the appearance of aging, and if carefully maintained it could reduce the speed at which the signs return.
