(HealthNewsDigest.com) – If you ask the majority of women to open their purse and pour the contents out, you’ll get a very quick “no.” Women carry their lives in their handbags and that’s one reason knowing the contents of a woman’s handbag can tell you a lot. Besides the very personal things in her wallet, there are a sundry of other things in the purse that personalize her in a way most women don’t think about. Although most women don’t want to reveal their age, their purse may reveal it for them.
Twenty year olds are concerned with their looks and usually have more than one tube of lipstick, lip balm, mascara, liner, condoms or other forms of birth control (this should be in every educated woman’s bag to protect themselves), and the list goes on and on. When you’re twenty, you’re more egocentric. You have only you to worry about and your bag reflects that. They’re careless too, so things will be tossed in the bag more loosely.
Thirty year olds are a bit more meticulous. They’ve cut down on the makeup, but still have one favorite. They carry less eye makeup, but more technology devices (iPads, smart phones and small computers). Since thirty year olds are usually into their career they’re pickier about name brands with their handbag as well as their wallet and other designer trinkets in the bag.
A mommy bag looks completely different. The bag usually carries the remnants of the baby even if out on a date night. In the very bottom finding a binky, a diaper or a travel package of diaper wipes is common. This is also the end of the small handbag, because you become the hoarder of Band Aids, children’s medications, adult Tylenol, and other things that you don’t want to be without.
Forty year olds have more expensive bags even if they’re mommy bags. They’re big bags and are combining work with kids, so they have the extra safety pins, tape, tablets, phones, Band Aids, lipstick, mirrors, keys, homework, and as you can imagine, are often the heaviest bags of all ages.
Fifty years olds and beyond handbags are when you begin seeing the changes and the variety of the lives these women are leading. They’re cougars, grandmas, adventurers, and the list goes on. Fifty and older is the age of freedom for many women; freedom from childcare responsibilities, broken marriages and beginnings of a new life. They’ve learned carrying those heavy handbags causes arthritis, and from fifty on you’re trying to make your life simpler. The older you get, the more important “tokens” are especially spiritually or nature; a worry stone, small gratitude book, or something of that nature. You’ll also find lipstick, lip gloss, hand cream, and the essentials for that particular woman. The handbags these women carry are complex in their simplicity.
Just as each person is an individual, and you can never 100% predict one’s life story from what they carry, it is a good idea to clean out your handbag from time and time and ask what these items say about you. Are they really necessary to carry with you every day? Arthritis does happen, and the weight of your handbag is a major culprit. But depending on your age, if you’re a mom, your bag has got to be big. -Mary Jo Rapini
