(HealthNewsDigest.com) – A new whitepaper authored by experts on active shooter detection systems details the February 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, with analysis of how automated, rapid-response technology may have changed the course of events which lead to more than 30 wounded or dead students and faculty.
“Technology reacts in milliseconds, humans react in minutes,” the authors write. “By reducing the event timeline from minutes to seconds, many lives will be saved.”
The paper includes a comparison of the actual timeline of the shooting with a theoretical timeline, had shooter detection technology been in place. This analysis demonstrates the capabilities of automated systems to detect gunshots, secure a facility, alert emergency responders, and issue mass-notification of a threat, all within a fraction of the time it takes for human response.
“By connecting intelligence gathering technology, detection technology, deter & delay technology, mass notification technology and responder engagement we can be extremely effective at reducing the event timeline to near or at zero,” the authors conclude.
