(HealthNewsDigest.com).. Plastic surgery isn’t just for women anymore. Over the past few years there have been a growing number of men who are using liposuction and tummy tucks to have the body they’ve always wanted.

Dr. Elliot Jacobs, MD, FACS, one of New York’s top aesthetic surgeons and author of Mantalk: Tips from the Pros for Great Looks, Good Health and Maintaining Your Competitive Edge says he’s noticed an increase in both the number of plastic surgery procedures and the types of procedures that men are looking to undergo.

“There is a new group of men who are relatively fit but may have a few extra pounds and a few extra bulges that they just can’t seem to lose,” Dr. Jacobs said. They aren’t looking to drastically change their bodies but want to firm up their problem areas with a natural-looking result.

He’s developed a new surgical procedure that he calls “torsoplasty” which combines separate procedures that sculpt the chest, take inches off of the midsection and obliterate those hard-to-eliminate love handles. “In one procedure, I can give them a shape that diet and exercise simply can’t give them,” Dr. Jacobs explains.

Dr. Jacobs is one of the nation’s leading providers of male breast reduction surgery to treat gynecomastia, a condition that typically affects a significant number of men. Gynecomastia is enlargement of the male breast caused by an increase of the breast’s glandular tissue, which is due to an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone. He saw an increasing number of men who came in to correct this condition and who also wanted to have liposuction to remove the fat from their midsections, too.

When he combined these separate procedures into one, both he and his patients were very pleased with the end result. “I call it a ‘torsoplasty’ because I’m working on the entire torso—the area from the neck down to the groin,” Dr. Jacobs said.

This procedure is perfect for the man who may be a few pounds overweight and isn’t able to achieve the result they want through diet and exercise alone. “This isn’t a treatment for obesity,” Dr. Jacobs warned. “They have to be healthy and reasonably fit. It’s for those men who want to go from being a little pudgy to trim and buff.”
