Book Store Owner Struggles to Provide Health Coverage to Employees

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Salt Lake City, UT: Tony runs a family owned independent book store with his wife that employs 22 staff members. He offers health insurance to his employees and half of them buy into the store’s group insurance policy. The book store’s business revenues have declined over the past 15 years while health care costs have climbed 10-20 percent each year. In march 2009, the book store had to lay off 20 percent of its staff. Tony says he probably would not have had to cut so many people from his staff if health care costs hadn’t been so high.
