Vampires – Why Do Women Love Them?

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – I have never understood women’s interest in Vampires. Although I read Anne Rice novels and thought she was a genius, I cannot say I truly understood the fascination for Vampires. Now thinking about, reading, and watching them on TV is almost faddish. Twilight is even coming to theaters and every guy will go to watch it with his girlfriend or wife. True Blood is a hit TV show and both men and women are “hooked”. What is it about these vampires that is wooing audiences, especially women?

Vampire behavior contains a very important ingredient that makes vampires irresistible (take note men). They are very romantic and yet a bit dangerous. They impress us with a struggle between being somewhat damaged, both morally and socially, yet being sensitive and caring at the same time. They are usually gorgeous and strong and they make us feel protected. They also let us know that they need us and we feel like we may be able to help them or reform them. Women understand that these vampires really are “good” but they need us to help bring this out. They also present a risk if you love them because they aren’t human. Therefore they make for better fantasy.

In the 1800’s Vampires presented a way to talk about sexuality without getting censored. Authors could write about sexual experiences, but since they weren’t true and were performed with a Vampire (neither human nor animal) it was considered fictional and therefore accepted. But now with sex and nudity on TV, computers and print, having to worry about censorship is not as crucial. It may be that vampires appeal to women’s ability to escape. Vampires are neither fully dead nor fully alive so the fantasy is close enough to real life, but yet doesn’t get confused with real life. When female patients come to see me, it is very helpful if I know the vampire to whom they are relating. It moves therapy along quicker than if I don’t understand their point of reference.

Suggestions if you are dating or married to a woman who loves Vampires

1. Begin by reading the first book of the Twilight series. Women say this is the best one, and the Vampire in there is EXACTLY what every woman wants, even if they don’t admit it.

2. Become more romantic like a Vampire. Also, it may help to develop a different hair style (slicked back or make it messy).

3. The greatest sign of love for the vampire-loving women is that although the Vampire needs their blood, he doesn’t take it from her because he loves her and understands this will ruin their relationship. If you can give up something you really want for her, she will be more impressed with you.

4. Put more excitement back into your relationship. Many women love this…but they don’t know how to ask for it without seeming critical or blaming.

The twilight series was written at a 5th or 6th grade level. It is easy reading, and I suggest it to couples who are looking for ways to spice up their romance. It does offer ideas of what women really do like but may not admit.
