(HealthNewsDigest.com)-More than 6 million kids have asthma, according to Kidshealth.org. Dust mites, mold, pollen, perfume, cigarette smoke and animal dander can trigger a flare-up, making it harder to breathe. The Environmental Protection Agency says cockroach droppings or body parts can also trigger asthma. In fact, the EPA says cockroach allergens are likely to play a significant role in asthma in many urban areas.

“Roaches enter your home from your lawn and garden and prefer warm, dark, humid places to live inside,” says Bayer Advanced™ Garden Expert Lance Walheim, co-author of “Landscaping for Dummies.”

Roaches crawl through loose door frames or baseboards, the molding around windows or cracks around cabinets. They carry germs and travel throughout your kitchen or bathrooms in search of food and water.

How to prevent and kill roaches:

• Don’t leave the garbage out.

• Store food in airtight containers; don’t leave pet food out.

• Clean up crumbs or spilled liquids right away.

• Wash dishes immediately and keep counters, sinks, tables and floors clear of clutter.

• Fix plumbing leaks and seal cracks and openings.

There’s a new solution on the market that takes a different approach to pest control. Bayer Advanced Natria™ Home Insect Control kills cockroaches, spiders, ants and other pests on contact. It contains active ingredients such as soybean oil and eugenol (which comes from clove and cinnamon). It can be used around children and pets and can be sprayed in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, basement and garages. Visit BayerAdvanced.com for more details or call (877) BAYERAG.
