(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Elementary At-home Essentials: These categories are good year-round favorites. Back-to-school shopping is a good time to pick up these essentials.

1. Bandages: Scrapes and cuts happen every day, so be prepared with an assortment of bandages. An easy way to save on essential supplies is to purchase private label brands such as up & up™ from Target—the quality is equivalent to national brands. Up & up prices range from $2.04-$2.69.

2. Ice Packs: Bumps and bruises are common, and having pre-cooled ice packs can be a savior. Look for kid-friendly designs such as Hello Kitty, Strawberry Shortcake or Iron Man 2 from Bye-Bye Boo-Boo Therapeutic Ice Pack; each pack is only $5.49 at Target.

3. Tropical Antibiotics: Products such as Neosporin or bacitracin help prevent infections in scrapes and cuts.

High School Must-haves: Once kids get back inside from the summer, germs are sure to be passed. Make sure that you are well-prepared for the inevitable.

1. Cold/Cough Medicine: Sniffles start up in the early fall, so be prepared with common cold medicines. Up & up cold relief only $4.04 (20 coated caplets).

2. Thermometer: Fevers can be serious; be sure to monitor them with an accurate thermometer. Find digital and ear thermometers ranging from $8-$30 at your local Target Pharmacy.

3. Vitamin D: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends vitamin D supplement of 400 IU per day for adolescents who may not be getting enough in their everyday diet. Speak to your doctor or ask a Target pharmacist if you have any questions.

Crucial for College: Sending your oldest off to college is always an adventure. Make sure they are prepared with some back-to-college basics.

1. First-aid Kit: Send college-age kids away with a proper first-aid kit to keep in their dorm rooms. It should include pain relievers, tweezers, sterile dressing, latex gloves, band aids and antibiotic ointment.

2. Pain Relief: Headaches and minor pain are inevitable, so be sure to pick up Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen. Both are available in various forms such as liquids, tablets, capsules and chewables.

Stay Healthy: With the start of school comes flu season. Arm yourself with some preventive tools.

1. Flu Vaccination: Get your flu vaccination early and decrease your chances of getting the virus that causes influenza.

2. Hand Sanitizer: Keep germs at bay by sticking a travel-size hand sanitizer in your kid’s backpack. Encourage them to use it when washing hands at school isn’t feasible, such as recess or when changing classrooms. Up & up $1.14 (travel size).
