(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Indianapolis, IN — Menopause experts Drs. Lovera W. Miller and David C. Miller, claim in their new book, Womenopause: Stop Pausing and Start Living (O Books; August 1, 2010; ISBN 978-1-84694-321-8), that Menopausal Hormone Therapy, or MHT, can help reduce the risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, breast cancer, diabetes, and even depression and dementia.

The Millers present new evidence that puts to rest the controversial statement by the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) in 2002 that declared MHT (formerly known as Hormone Replacement Therapy, or HRT) was harmful and could lead to the same health risks that the doctors say it now helps prevent.

“The chief reason Menopausal Hormone Therapy is recommended is to maximize quality of life,” Dr. Lovera Miller said.

“It is never to be used as some nutty attempt to remain young or turn back the clock.”

Utilizing a new set of metrics by which to measure the health benefits of MHT, the authors explain there are certain categories of women who should not use MHT, including women who’ve had or currently have breast cancer, liver disease, or a heart attack or stroke within the past 12 months.

The doctors discuss the numerous benefits of using MHT to treat menopause symptoms, including:

* A reduced risk of developing depression and dementia.
* Reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, breast cancer, diabetes, and colon cancer.
* Smoother, softer skin.
* Stronger bones and muscles.
* Improved sexual response.

With more than 50 years of combined experience, the Millers provide the latest scientific data and medical advice about women’s midlife health concerns, including: menopause, heart health, osteoporosis, sex, cancer, dementia, metabolic syndrome, weight gain, exercise, aging skin, mood matters, and much more.

Dr. Lovera Miller is a Board Certified OB/GYN and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also a NAMS (North American Menopause Society) Certified Menopause Practitioner and president of “Health 4 Her” in Michigan City, Indiana, where she practices gynecology and the treatment of perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. Dr. David C. Miller is a NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner. He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology and in Pain by the American Board of Pain Medicine, American Board of Interventional Pain Practice, and the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians. He is also the president of Woodland Pain Center in Michigan City, Indiana, where he evaluates and treats chronic pain.
