(HealthNewsDigest.com) – In the course of the past few decades, vision correction has been developing. Eyeglasses, which have proved their aptitude after centuries of use, were only the beginning. Contact lenses appeared andhave become a kind of invisible alternative for glasses. In the 1990’s, laser vision correction was introduced, providing people with a more permanent solution.

The most common technique of performing refractive surgery today is known as Lasik. Dr. Boothe as well as all other Lasik surgeons utilizes special laser equipment to remodel the shape of the cornea that performs the main focusing function in your eyes. Over the last ten years, scientists continued to create new Lasik technologies that have enhanced the general results and safety of Lasik vision correction.

Wavefront Technology

Wavefront technology became widely used in refractive surgery in the beginning of 21st century. This technology uses innocuous beams of light that are sent into the eye and reflect off the retina. This allows the eye’s optical system to be evaluated as a 3-D map, making it possible to get a detailed specification for patient’s eye. Dr. William Boothe explains that the information found within the map is then transferred to the Wavelight Allegretto Wave excimer laser. Later it is utilized to direct the laser as it remodels the cornea during vision correction procedure, providing patients with a perfectly customised laser vision treatment.

IntraLasik

IntraLasik provides outstanding precision, and may make it possible for patients who have previously been refused due to a high risk to be reconsidered for laser refractive surgery. This level of accuracy diminishes patient anxiety and considerably diminishes or removes the possibility for aftereffects that may take place after traditional Lasik. This level of safety is a first in laser eyesight correction technology. IntraLasik can really make laser vision treatment one of the most worthwhile decision of life and most patients understand that this technology is well worth the additional cost when thinking of having vision correction surgery. The Boothe Laser Center now offers affordable plans to have IntraLasik and pay as little as $30 per month for it.

IntraLasik is reputed by most ophthalmologists to be nearly the safest type of laser refractive surgery. While during conventional Lasik handheld blade called microkeratome is used, the latest IntraLasik technology uses an infrared femtosecond laser operated by a computer. Dr. William Boothe says that this laser is accurate to a degree of +/- 10 microns making it far surpassing compared to a handheld cutting device.

There are always new achievements taking place in the field of refractive correction. Some vision corrections will be more expensive than others. Dr. Boothe insists that patients should do their own research and ask their eye surgeon which laser vision treatment will be more suitable for them independently of price.

Future Goals

At present, obtaining the 20/20 vision (without the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses) after vision correction procedure is considered a success. Nevertheless, Dr. William Boothe as well as many other ophthalmologists continues to search methods for further enhancing this result because our vision isn’t limited to 20/20 – many young healthy people have better sharpness of vision (20/15 to 20/12). Theoretically, human limits of foveal vision could be between 20/12 and 20/5 for common pupil sizes if it would be possible to remove all aberrations in the visual system.

The main aims of Lasik development in the future are:

– to surpass the limit of supposed 20/20 vision after the surgery.

– to perform the procedure for correcting vision problems in eyes that had suboptimal vision correction procedures previously, for example automated lamellar keratoplasty(ALK), radial keratotomy (RK), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) or astigmatic keratotomy (AK).

– to completely reduce any complaints from patients about post surgical side effects / complications such as glare or halo at night.
