(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Positive. Life-enhancing. Enlightening. Compassionate. These words are seldom associated with divorce. Words that typically come to mind are: Painful. Agonizing. Resentful. Bitter. Ugly. The average divorce takes two years with a median cost of $30,000. Yet the true cost of divorce is more than time or money; it is the legacy of the decisions made during the process. It doesn’t matter how long a couple has been married, whether there are kids or no kids—the painful impact of divorce often leads to bad choices that can forever alter a family’s life.

More couples file for divorce in early January than at any other time throughout the year. THE GOOD KARMA DIVORCE: Avoid Litigation, Turn Negative Emotions into Positive Actions, and Get On with the Rest of Your Life (HarperOne; January 2011; Trade Paperback; $14.99; ISBN: 978-0-06-184071-5)—offers a radically different approach to divorce. Based on her decades of expertise as a family court judge and former divorce attorney, Judge Michele Lowrance has created this revolutionary guide for individuals at any point in the divorce process. Over the last four years, Judge Lowrance has seen one hundred percent of divorcing couples who followed the principles in this book avoid trial.

Offering concrete advice from the bench, real-life stories, no-nonsense tools, and checklists, this revolutionary guide helps readers avoid the black hole of litigation and learn how to:

· Create a gameplan: Judge Michele shows readers how to craft a roadmap that will serve as a moral compass throughout the ever-twisting divorce journey.

· Harness negative emotions: Divorce often brings out some of the strongest emotions ever felt in one’s lifetime. Judge Michele helps transform these raw feelings into positive power, showing readers that they don’t have to be victims.

· Prevent collateral damage: Divorce is so personal that it is easy to lose focus on the big picture. Judge Michele’s impassioned advice will help guide readers through the minefield, delivering a clear course of action to protect what we all value most—including our children

· Master constructive confrontation: It might start ugly but it doesn’t have to stay that way. Judge Michele teaches how to avoid carnage in the courtroom, reinvigorate stale negotiations, and create a civility agreement.

A proven program to turn the negative emotions and pain of divorce into positive actions, THE GOOD KARMA DIVORCE is a practical and powerful guide that will help those at any point in the divorce process.
