Stop & Shop Alerts Customers to Voluntary Recall of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – QUINCY, Mass. and PURCHASE, N.Y., June 12, 2012 — The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC, following a recall by Unilever, announced it removed from sale pints of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream due to undeclared peanuts or tree nuts on the ingredient label.

The affected product has date codes of JUL1113BJ1, JUL1213BJ1, AUG0113BJ1, AUG0213BJ1, AUG2313BJ1, AUG2413BJ1, AUG2513BJ1, SEP2013BJ1, SEP2113BJ1 or OCT2313BJ1 printed on the bottom of the pint. The following product is included in this recall:

— Pints of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream, UPC 7684020899
No illnesses have been reported to date, but people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts or tree nuts may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions or bring their purchase receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.
