(HealthNewsDigest.com) – The Face Institute, run by Dr. Paul Gerarchi, is one of the best places to go for facial plastic surgery in Chatswood, Australia. Many patients have come in for both facelifts and rhinoplasties, and while they both are popular and routine procedures, the aftercare is something that requires caution and a bit of planning. In total there are five important things for any patient to NOT do after having either of these procedures.
- The first is to avoid hitting your face or nose if at all possible. If it happens, it is not a huge concern unless you begin bleeding or swelling occurs as a result of it. Still, it’s best to avoid being injured at all.
- Under no circumstances should you take any medication that contains aspirin or derivatives thereof including salicylates or ibuprofen without express permission from the doctor. These medications can cause lightheadedness and may impair healing. This is truer for facelifts than rhinoplasties, but it is best to follow the doctor’s instruction exactly regarding which medications may be taken.
- Swelling will be an issue but the worst of it can be mitigated by not laying around the first day after the surgery. Keep moving naturally and rest when you are tired. You should avoid trying to lift heavy objects or bending over, as this can increase the swelling. You should also sleep with your head elevated and alone, possibly even in a chair.
- Aerobic exercises should be avoided for at least a month. This can disrupt the healing process and put you at risk for injury. After surgery is a good time to relax. You can keep active and are encouraged to do beyond sitting around, but pushing yourself into contact sports is not advised.
- It is best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for up to three months after these surgeries. Sun exposure can increase swelling and damage your skin.
If you have any questions feel free to call the office or come in for a consultation.
