(HealthNewsDigest.com) – There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding Obamacare with one of the biggest question marks being how the Affordable Care Act is affecting employment trends. While pundits are split as to whether or not the healthcare overhaul is to blame for the surge in part-time workers, some employees are finding they will actually fair better financially in a part-time position.
Human resources expert Rob Wilson, President of Employco USA, explains that under the Affordable Care Act employers are required to provide healthcare for employees who work over 30 hours a week. Part-time workers, on the other hand, will now have access to healthcare via government exchanges. However many workers will end up having lower premiums through the exchanges than if they were to work a few more hours as full-time and purchase healthcare through their employer.
“Under the healthcare reform, the cost of insurance premiums is subsidized depending on your income,” says Wilson. “These options will provide greater freedom and more options for those who choose to work part-time as many of the medical benefits will rival those of full-time workers.”
