(HealthNewsDigest.com) – LOS ANGELES (June 9, 2014)-More than 1.1 million people in the U.S. are infected with HIV, and over 200,000 don’t even know it, according to CDC estimates. June 27, marks National HIV Testing day, an annual observance to promote HIV testing. This year’s theme urges people to ‘Take the Test and Take Control,’ with various events going on throughout the country.
As the exclusive lubricant sponsor of the Chicagoland HIV Testing Collaborative’s (CHTC) Step Up. Get Tested. campaign, WET® personal lubricant is distributing 100,000 Safe Sex Kits containing a condom and Wet® Platinum® lubricant.
Just one of many events taking place, this month-long campaign begins on June 5 with mobile HIV testing all across the Chicago area and culminates on July 4. The citywide event is supported by 30 partners including the Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois Departments of Public Health, in addition to Chicago area hospitals, community health centers and community-based organizations. In 2012, Step Up. Get Tested. made 40,000 contacts in one month and tested nearly 6,000 people.
