More Money in Your Pocket – Pump Prices Continue Downward Slide
Falling commodity prices for crude and processed fuel, an increase in U.S. oil production, seasonal switch to lower-priced winter grade fuels, low Ethanol prices, and the end of the summer travel season, are all contributing factors to lower pump prices at the retail level, reports AAA. Nationally, fuel currently averages $3.33 a gallon, a drop of ten cents a gallon during the past month. In Nebraska, unleaded averages $3.29, down 12 cents from prices reported just one month ago. With commodity prices for both crude oil and processed fuel retreating, motorists are expected to see very favorable prices during the next few weeks. Some U.S. cities with low gasoline taxes are posting averages close to the $3 level. St. Joe in Missouri, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, report fuel averages of $3.04 a gallon. Reverse a Climbing Trend in Deadly Rural Area Crashes
A review of traffic fatalities on Nebraska rural roads shows a climbing trend. During the first nine months of 2011, 97 people died on rural area roads in Nebraska. The following year, 118 people died in crashes. In 2013, the death toll climbed to 124 men, women and children. So far this year, 132 people have lost their lives on rural area roads in Nebraska. In many crashes, unbelted vehicle occupants sustained fatal injuries when ejected or partially ejected during a rollover crash. To prevent critical injuries, always wear your safety belt. Airbags were designed to be used with the safety belt system.
