(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Sean Wyman was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) on his 19thbirthday. PAH is a progressive, life-threatening disease in which high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs (the pulmonary arteries) make it difficult for the heart to supply blood to the lungs. The disease affects approximately 200,000 patients worldwide.

Now in his early thirties, Sean has not let PAH stop him from accomplishing his goals. He is currently in his second year of medical school and serves as a patient mentor through the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. Recognizing a need for information about the condition for young adults and children, Sean developed the Lips Painted Blue cartoon series (named for the signature hallmark of someone in need of life sustaining oxygen) to help children and their parents understand the disease.

Lips Painted Blue is a series of four cartoon shorts that follow a character named Jeremy and his family through the initial diagnosis, doctors’ visits and learning to cope with the disease. The series pulls inspiration from real-life patient stories and is a great reminder that children can still live exciting and vibrant lives after diagnosis.

November is Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month
