(HealthNewsDigest.com) – ADIRONDACK REGION, NY (April 20, 2015) – The Adirondack Region of Northern New York is renowned for its smooth roadways, challenging climbs and breathtaking scenery – an ideal environment for road biking – whether a competitive racer, or a beginner cyclist.
This summer, the Adirondack Region of Northern New York will host the inaugural Cycle Adirondacks event, a week-long road biking excursion across 500 miles of scenic landscape, welcoming cyclists to enjoy the spectacular road biking opportunities available throughout the region.
Cycle Adirondacks was created by the Wildlife Conservation Society to promote the Adirondack Region’s incredible roadways and scenery, and is a non-competitive, multi-day road bike event through some of the most scenic areas of the Adirondacks. Open to 600 cyclists, the tour will cover over 500 miles in seven days, August 23-29, and begin and end in Saranac Lake. Participants will stop at night along the route, and enjoy an all-inclusive adventure where lodging and meals are taken care of, as well as shuttle and bag services. The entry fee is $1,495 for adults and $995 for participants under 18 years of age.
10th Ididaride! Adirondack Bike Tour kicks off August 9 at the North Creek Ski Bowl Park. Presented by the Adirondack Mountain Club, this fully supported 75-mile bike tour through the central Adirondacks includes four rest stops and an after-ride party. Entry fee is $85 for non-Adirondack Club members; but participants who register by June 1 receive a $15 discount. All proceeds go to conservation, recreation and advocacy programs for the Adirondacks.
Not up for a multi-day road bike? No worries, the Adirondacks host several cycling events that don’t require quite as much dedication throughout the summer, including:
14th Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race on June 6 is open to junior riders and adults, as well as unicyclists. The race climbs 3,500 feet over 11 miles up the Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway to the top of Whiteface, New York’s 5th highest peak. Race fees are $65 for adult riders, $45 for junior and active military participants.
The Uphill Bike Race is part of the annual Wilmington/Whiteface Bike Fest, now in its sixth year, and includes the Wilmington/Whiteface 100 mountain bike race, a Leadville 100 qualifier. Enjoy a weekend of multi-discipline riding, live music, barbecues, bike demos and more.
No need to fan the competitive flame to enjoy cycling in the Adirondacks. Just grab a bike and set off on your own to explore one of the many routes available, including:
Lake Champlain Bikeways span over 1,100 miles, providing an interconnected network of routes between Quebec, New York State and Vermont.
