(HealthNewsDigest.com) – There’s a real health craze going on right now. Organic food labels are seen on every isle of the grocery store, and you cannot escape the advertisements of vitamins, probiotics and raw protein. You know you’re supposed to exercise, but do you know sex is as important and healthy as any supplement you’ll ingest? In fact, sex is not only good for you, but it’s good for your partner.

The fourth of July is the perfect time for focusing on your health, because you have a three-day weekend to add some spark in your bedroom. Here are a few of the health benefits science supports for why sex is healthy.

1. Orgasms increase the blood flow to the whole brain, making it a better mental exercise than a crossword puzzle, and just as helpful as a two mile run.

2. Sex causes the brain to release a steroid called DHEA (a main contributor to staying young). An active sex life makes you look and feel younger.

3. Regular sex increases blood flow and decreases stress hormones in the body. Stress hormones age you.

4. Sex in the morning was found to boost both your mood and immune system.

5. Intercourse boosts the levels of immunoglobulin (antibodies) preventing colds and flu.

6. Sex lowers your blood pressure.

7. Sex improves a woman’s bladder control.

8. Sex lowers your risk of heart attacks.

9. Sex reduces pain.

10. Sex reduces the risk of prostate cancer.

If you haven’t enjoyed sparks in your bedroom for some time, these suggestions may help.

  • Find time and commit to having sex.
  • Let sex happen and go with the flow. You need to love your partner more than you need to finish all the chores. When your partner is pawing you or seeming very interested in you, instead of thinking up every reason you can’t right now, go with the flow.
  • Don’t forget the playful part or flirty part. Send text messages or leave notes for your partner. Kiss, touch, and spend skin-to-skin time. Put off the things like laundry and spend extra time together in bed.
  • Sex should be the behavior that bonds you together, not drives you apart. Make it exciting by talking about your fantasy’s or things you love most that your partner does. The more sex you have, the closer you’ll feel and the healthier you’ll be.

Sex is healthy and there is nothing dirty or nasty about it. It is the glue to marriage and intimacy between two people. Fireworks in your bedroom and loving to love each other is a predictor of successful, happy couples. -Mary Jo  Rapini
