(HealthNewsDigest.com) – LANSDOWNE, Va., Jan. 25, 2017 — The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has selected 628 outstanding high school seniors with financial need as semifinalists for its College Scholarship, which provides recipients with up to $40,000 annually for four years to enable them to attend some of the top colleges and universities in the U.S. It is the largest undergraduate scholarship in the nation.

The semifinalists were chosen from more than 5,100 scholarship applicants with a median family income of $36,000. Up to 70 students will be selected from the semifinalists in April to become Cooke College Scholars.

“Cooke Scholars are extraordinarily bright and talented, and have gone on to graduate from America’s elite colleges and universities at the top of their class,” said Cooke Foundation Executive Director Harold O. Levy.

The semifinalists come from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands. A list of the semifinalists by state can be found here.

In addition to the College Scholarship, the Cooke Foundation provides scholarships to students from 8th through 12th grades and for community college students to transfer to four-year colleges. After graduating with bachelor’s degrees, Cooke College Scholars may be eligible for a Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship worth up to $50,000 a year for up to four years.
