(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Was your mother too busy, too tired from other responsibilities, or simply too checked-out to provide you with the nurturing you needed as a child? Men and women whose mothers weren’t available to them emotionally as children still struggle as adults. The Emotionally Absent Mother was the first book to address the “undermothered”—adults left feeling empty and not sure why. Now in its second edition, The Emotionally Absent Mother: How to Recognize and Heal the Invisible Effects of Childhood Emotional Neglect (The Experiment; April 18, 2017; Paperback; $15.95; ISBN: 978-1-61519-382-0) has been updated and expanded with seven additional years of research and insight.
With this groundbreaking book, licensed psychotherapist Jasmin Lee Cori has already helped thousands of adults identify and heal a wound that many didn’t know they had. Adults who were undermothered often go on to struggle with relationships—and their own self-worth. For some, their mother may have been fine on the outside, but not present enough to provide adequate nurturing. For others, their mother may have crossed over to be hurtful or demeaning.
Through reflections, exercises, and clear explanations, Cori helps adult sons and daughters heal the wounds left by their mothers and find the love they missed. The second edition of The Emotionally Absent Mother has compassion for children and mothers alike, and updates include:
- Childhood emotional neglect, abuse, and their effects
- Psychological disorders that may have affected one’s mother: Why is she shut down? What can’t she give her child?
- And how grown children can approach their mothers now.
