“We are so excited to have been designated for the fourth time,” said Richard J. Sagall, MD, President of NeedyMeds. “Everyone at NeedyMeds deserves a big ‘pat on the back’ for contributing to our success as a great place to work.”
NeedyMeds placed 29th out of the top 50 and 9th out of 16 in the small non-profits category.
The award is based on a survey conducted by the Best Companies Group that covered benefits and employment practices. In addition, employees were given an extensive confidential survey covering eight areas of work life.
“Organizations that make the list have been successful in creating unique cultures where employees love to come to work,” said Peter Burke, BCG president. “The leaders of the winning organizations understand their cultural values and they live their cultural values.”
“Each day we help thousands of people who can’t afford their medication and healthcare costs. The staff hears of the hardship people experience in their lives every day,” said Robin Hoffman, Director of Operations at NeedyMeds. “Working in a supportive, friendly and open work environment makes it easier for these people.”
This year is also significant for NeedyMeds in another way. It is celebrating 20 years of helping people find assistance with medication and healthcare related costs.
NeedyMeds is an information source listing programs that provide assistance for people unable to afford their medications and healthcare costs. Programs listed provide assistance with medications, living expenses, supplies, and more. In addition, the website lists camps and scholarships based on diagnoses, drug discount coupons and rebates, and over 15,000 free/low cost/sliding scale clinics. NeedyMeds never charges for any of the services it provides to individuals and all access to the information is anonymous.
In addition to listing information on programs that help with healthcare costs, NeedyMeds has a number of other websites:
- HEALfundr (www.healfundr.org) – A medical crowdfunding website
- Safe Needle Disposal (www.safeneedledisposal.org) – A resource of information on how to safely and legally dispose of used needles and other sharps
- Findcare (www.findcare.org) – A resource of free/low cost/sliding scale clinics
- HealthWeb Navigator (www.healthwebnav.org ) – A website with authoritative reviews of health-related websites
“We are pleased NeedyMeds is at the top of small organizations,” said Fred Cowan, President of the Board of Directors. “There are several reasons for NeedyMeds’ employees’ satisfaction with their jobs. They are treated with respect, and their input and ideas are valued; they have an open and collegial working environment; there is great flexibility in accommodating their personal needs; and they know that their work is helping others in finding many ways to reduce the cost of their health care.”
