(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Americans’ confidence in their ability to afford the health care they need continues to decline, according to new findings from the Commonwealth Fund Affordable Care Act Tracking Survey. In 2018, 62 percent of working-age adults said they were very or somewhat confident they could afford their health care if they became seriously ill, down from a high of nearly 70 percent in 2015. In a new To the Point post, the Commonwealth Fund’s Sara Collins, Munira Gunja, Michelle Doty, and Herman Bhupal report that people with low incomes are the least confident, with only 51 percent feeling they could afford needed care, compared with 73 percent of higher-income people. Nearly half of all respondents said they wouldn’t be able to cover a $1,000 surprise medical bill within 30 days. |
