Examples and Benefits of Marketing in a Medical Setting

Posted on May 22, 2018

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – We don’t like to think of healthcare and marketing to be connected; the former is noble science, the latter an art of persuasion and influence. Yet in many parts of the world – especially the United States – these two are unavoidably going to mix. While laws and regulations rightly place restrictions on what sorts of marketing practices can occur in a healthcare setting, there is no shortage of ways patients are being advertised products and services.

There are a couple of ideal mediums for marketing to the public and patients that come into the office for treatment or just a checkup. Among the most common that are small cardboard displays for medication that sit on a side table, or even at the receptionist’s desk. These displays are always specific or related in some way to the type of office that you’re visiting. So if you’re in a dentist office for a checkup, you might see a small display for medicated mouthwash.

In a general practitioners office, the patient might even see a cardboard display for medication with flyers or pamphlets in the treatment room before the doctor comes in to see the patient. While the patient is waiting, this provides reading material for the patient as well as information about the medicine and illness it treats.

When a patient enters a hospital, or urgent care, another medium for advertising products or services that are offered by the hospital is a custom refrigerator wrap that has several images and descriptions about the service that’s being offered to the customer or patient. As the name implies, this is visible on a unit for keeping medications kept at cold temperatures. These are usually positioned behind the nurse’s station or in another visible yet secure area.

These are ideal for the hospital or even doctor’s office because they provide valuable information to the patient and customer without taking up any additional space that other means of advertising might take up, like the cardboard display for medication.

Custom refrigerator wraps can be made to meet any needs of the office or advertiser as they can be made to either fit the entire front and sides of the refrigerator, or even just a part of the refrigerator that it’s meant to be placed on. Some of these wraps can be removable to be placed on other surfaces as well, such as doors or countertops that are easily viewed by patients. They can also be made in any color scheme the advertiser wants.

The benefits of these means of advertising for hospitals or doctors offices are important because they provide several benefits to the patient and customers as well as the office that the materials are placed in. The materials are usually educational to the patient because they provide valuable information to the customer about an illness and product that can be used to treat that illness.

Advertising within a medical setting can be obvious, such as cardboard displays for medication in the sitting room, or even at the front desk. It can also be a bit more subtle with custom refrigerator wraps that educate a patient about a product or service the office or hospital is trying to promote. While advertising is often used in ways which prove detrimental to our health, advertising throughout a medical facility is aimed at improving health and wellbeing.
