(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Coleman Natural Foods, a pioneer in organic and no-antibiotics-ever foods, is supporting veterans and dogs in need through a generous pledge of $800,000 over three years to the American Humane Pups4Patriots™ program. American Humane, which is the country’s first national humane organization, has been involved in providing assistance to the U.S. military, veterans and military animals for more than 100 years.
Pups4Patriots is a national initiative that finds dogs in need of forever homes and trains them to become life-saving dogs for veterans with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Research has shown that specialized PTS and TBI service dogs can offer life-changing and often life-saving—support to veterans in need. However, there are obstacles standing in the way for veterans in need of service dogs. Waiting lists are often 18-24 months long and the training process is time-consuming and expensive, costing as much as $30,000 per dog.
“American Humane will be able to train more dogs because of Coleman’s generosity,” said American Humane President and CEO Robin Ganzert, Ph.D. “That means more deserving veterans can get help, at no cost to them, and a new leash on life.”

American Humane turns charitable donations into effective action. More than 91 cents out of every dollar spent at the organization goes directly into its life-saving programs and it earned Charity Navigator’s highest rating of four stars. The Pups4Patriots program is part of the Lois Pope LIFE Center for Military Affairs at American Humane, which offers programs to support our nation’s service men and women, veterans and military animals.
