(HealthNewsDigest.com) – DALLAS, December 30, 2020 – Strokes impact about 1 in every 4 people and are a leading cause of disability. Those who have had a stroke often must work against physical, emotional and cognitive changes to move forward. To do so requires strength and support.
This year, the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization devoted to fighting cardiovascular disease and stroke, is honoring individuals and groups in the stroke community who have shown resilience and outstanding progress from around the U.S. through the second annual Stroke Hero Awards. Nominations are being accepted now through January 31, 2021 at stroke.org/HeroAwards.
The categories for the Stroke Hero Awards are:
- Survivor Hero – Honors an individual who has survived a stroke and used their experience to educate, inspire and bring awareness about stroke on a local or national level.
- Pediatric Hero – Honors an individual younger than 18 who has survived a stroke and overcome significant hurdles and whose family has used its experience to educate, inspire and bring awareness to stroke.
- Caregiver Hero – Honors an individual who has cared for a stroke survivor and used their experience to educate, inspire and bring awareness about stroke on a local or national level.
- Support Group Heroes – Honors a stroke support group committed to educating, inspiring and bringing awareness about stroke on a local or national level.
- Group Heroes – Honors a group committed to educating, inspiring and bringing awareness about stroke on a local or national level. Groups can include, but are not limited to, stroke teams, medical facilities and people who have come together to raise awareness about stroke.
- Voters’ Choice Hero – Honors an individual or group making an outstanding effort to educate, inspire and bring awareness about stroke on a local or national level. Judges select candidates from the nominations in the other five categories, and public voting determines the winner.
