(HealthNewsDigest.com) – WASHINGTON, May 11, 2011 — In celebration of National Nurses Week (May 6-12), the Home Healthcare Nurses Association (HHNA) is re-launching its membership.
HHNA is dedicated to influencing public policy and fostering excellence in the practice of home healthcare and hospice nursing for RNs and students. An advisory board of the top nurses across the country has been chosen and will keep the organization up-to-date on issues impacting home care and hospice in their respective states and guide the activities of the group.
Elaine D. Stephens, RN, MPH, FHHC, Executive Vice President of Home Care & Hospice for the Masonic Health System of Massachusetts will serve as the Chair of HHNA and the HHNA Advisory Board and Shannon Lovejoy will serve as Director of HHNA.
“I’m honored to be taking on this new opportunity to serve as chair,” said Stephens. “We have a real opportunity to advance the priorities and well-being of nurses in the home care and hospice industry and the patients they serve.”
Members of HHNA will be kept aware of changes to laws and regulations that impact the industry. Members will also be able to receive discount rates for events and conferences hosted by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC).
“We are proud to have Elaine Stephens play this significant leadership role. As a former Chairman of the NAHC Board of Directors, she is an exceptional home care executive and a real activist for home care and hospice,” said Val Halamandaris, president of NAHC.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of RNs is projected to grow 22 percent by 2018 and the projected growth for nurses in the home health care industry is 33 percent, the second highest of all industries.
“There are 2.6 million registered nurses right now and that is expected to grow to over 3.2 million by 2018,” said Shannon Lovejoy, Director of the Home Healthcare Nurses Association. “In recognition of National Nurses Week, we are re-launching the membership to start talking about the benefits of home healthcare and how we can provide solutions for patient care.”
