(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Traumatic events in your life can cause you to become angry at the world, and even consume your entire existence. The good news is that there are several ways to learn to control it.

Bottled Up Feelings

Maybe you believe that by keeping your emotions to yourself you are a stronger person. However, over time bottled up emotions can actually lead to serious health problems, failed relationships and resentment. Learning how to release your anger in a non-aggressive manner will allow you to move on and rest easy.

Why Am I So Angry?

Some people have more tolerance for mishaps in life than others. If you go from green to red in seconds it’s more than likely a topic that you are uncomfortable with or a series of situations of a similar nature that make your blood boil. Often, how a person interprets things can trigger internal rage, especially if they feel that someone is threatening them, treating them unfairly, becomes frustrated or feels a sense of powerlessness.

The Role of Your Upbringing

A childhood filled with an angry or absent parent, past experiences and current events in your life can all play a silent role in your ability to function without anger. Learning positive ways to cope and deal with your anger is essential to enjoying a better quality of life.

Ways to Release Anger

When you get angry exploding is not going to help anyone involved. Instead, a better approach is to announce that you are feeling a bit anxious and remove yourself from the situation. A calmer talk after you calm your emotions, especially when it involves loved ones, will work best everyone’s interest.

Speak Silently, Then Aloud

Often when people take things wrong, anger is the first response. Unfortunately, once you release the words aloud, there’s no taking them back. A better approach is to think about what the conversation was giving the benefit of misinterpretation on your part before you speak and then rehearse your delivery.

Therapy

If you live in New York, seeing a therapist or attending weekly sessions with a New York based life coach can help you get to the root of your anger. Sometimes just talking to someone who’s there to listen and offer advice on ways to help solve the problem, will open you up and let the causes of your anger leave your body.

Compounding the Problem

If anger controls your life it’s also harming you both mentally and physically. Overtime remaining angry can lead to substance abuse as a way to cope. While you may feel good temporarily, this is not a solution, as it will only compound the problem.

Ways to Remain Calm

Anger makes you tense. Thankfully, there are several ways to calm you naturally. Taking deep breaths when you feel overwhelmed can bring instant relief. Trying other things, like listening to your favorite music or taking up a relaxing hobby such as painting, reading, gardening or sculpting will make you happy and relaxed. Meditation can also put you in a relaxed state by connecting the mind and body into one whole unit.

Benefits of Exercise

When you engage in a physical activity that works the body into a sweat, your system automatically releases endorphins that make you feel good. A long run or a brisk walk alone also gives you time to remove the negative thoughts from your mind allowing you to think more clearly. And, since anger causes mental fatigue and anguish, exercise will recharge your system and restore energy.

Everyone gets angry from time to time. It’s a natural emotion. However, if you are angry often and continue this path as you grow older, it can become a harmful practice. Taking steps to control it is in your best interest, as well as for the people you care about the most.
