Beauty Items to Toss and Keep This Winter

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – As cold weather approaches, it is time to start thinking about cleaning out our cabinets and drawers, deciding which items to hold on to and which to toss to the back of the closet. While we’re contemplating the fate of our summer wardrobe, I advise taking a similar approach to the medicine cabinet. Not all products appropriate for warmer months should make the transition into winter. Here are some of my suggestions of what to toss and what to keep:

Toss: Heavy-duty spray sunscreens.

Keep: A light, oil-free sunscreen formula.

Why: When you’re not at the beach, you probably don’t need the all-over, durable coverage that a spray sunscreen provides. However, because UV rays are present year-round and you need protection every day, I recommend holding on to a sunscreen you’ll actually use all year, that won’t feel heavy or sticky and won’t make you break out. One she loves: Coppertone Oil-Free Faces SPF 30.

Toss: harsh, medicated oil-fighting cleansers.

Keep: A gentle facial cleanser.

Why: In the summer, sweat is skin’s biggest foe: clogging pores and causing all sorts of havoc. So it makes sense to combat sweat with a medicated cleanser designed to keep skin oil-free. But as the weather cools, these cleansers can have a drying effect on skin. Choose a balanced cleanser that isn’t so harsh, like Dove’s Beauty Bar.

Toss: Deep bronzer.

Keep: A gradual self-tanner.

Why: Unless you live in a sunny climate, having a deep tan year-round doesn’t look fresh or natural. When summer turns to fall, it’s best to toss out the one-shade-fits-all deep self-tanners in favor of a gradual self tanner with tone and darkness you can control for a more natural-looking glow. One to try: Coppertone Gradual Tan.
