The Best Sweet for Halloween
(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Chocolate that is! Chocolate is the most popular candy we eat and in general, the news isn’t all bad. In fact, it’s rare that any single food is “bad” when we eat just a little. It’s Halloween this week, (our children will be bringing home lots of candy) and I think that if we eat just a little bit of chocolate we can have our sweets, keep our healthy eating, and not gain weight too.

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – My motto is, “Stretching is for Everyday”, and I do practice what I preach (I admit it, I’m biased!). Flexibility is a component of fitness, so whether we stretch every day, or several days per week as part of our fitness programs, let’s not underestimate its benefits. Research has indicated that regular stretching may be more effective in preventing injuries than occasional stretching and a systematic review of 7 out of 9 studies indicates that regular stretching improves sports performance.

Our bodies have amazing regenerative powers, which can be tapped into through exercise. The old “use it or lose it” saying does apply to our bodies, especially as we age. As we age, most of us experience the effects of muscle loss that is accompanied by an increase in body fat, making us appear heavier whether we are or not.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Health Issues Not Being Taught at Medical Schools
(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Results of the study — based on a survey sent to deans at medical schools across the United States and Canada — showed that 33.3 percent of medical schools that responded spent zero hours on LGBT health-related content during the students’ clinical training, which usually takes place during the third and fourth year of medical school. Questions about course content ranged from topics such as sexual identity, chronic disease risk within the LGBT community and sex-reassignment surgery.
