(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Fifty may be the new 30, but the world’s largest specialty association of over 2,700 facial plastic surgeons (AAFPRS.ORG) is putting the “wow” back into the fifth decade as they come together to celebrate their Golden Anniversary in New York City this spring.
Every four years, the AAFPRS and the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies (IFFPSS) host a joint symposium that spotlights the latest trends in facial aesthetics from surgery to injectables and lasers. This year, a five day celebration of the Academy’s illustrious past, present and future is in store, and the festivities shall commence on May 27, 2014 at the Marriott Marquis in the Big Apple.
“It is New York City, arguably the most significant city in the world when it comes to fashion, the arts, finances and global cooperation. What a great place to hold this 50th anniversary milestone,” says AAFPRS President Edward H. Farrior, M.D., F.A.C.S., a Tampa, Florida-based facial plastic surgeon.
The 50th Anniversary Committee will unveil “A Family Forever Young” to pay homage to the Academy’s rich history and contributions to the field of medicine.
“The meeting features leading national and international facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, cosmetic dermatologists and oculoplastic surgeons, plus more than 200 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits over the five days,” says program chair Anthony Sclafani, MD, FACS, a New York City based facial plastic surgeon.
“The program offers a wide assortment of topics each day including updates on the latest devices and technology in facial plastic surgery as well as teaching courses on aesthetic and reconstructive surgeries,” Sclafani says. Hot topics presented will include robotic hair restoration, fat grafting to add volume to the face, laser skin resurfacing, minimally invasive face and neck lifts, and complex revision rhinoplasty techniques in all skin types. A two-day practice management course will cover marketing, social media and the Internet and staffing issues in your practice.
The event also includes a fashion show at the New York St. John Boutique on Fifth Avenue to help support the Academy’s FACE TO FACE humanitarian initiative which comprises an international program, the National Domestic Violence Project and Faces of Honor, a program that offers pro bono surgery to soldiers who have been injured during the Iraq or Afghanistan wars.
