(HealthNewsDigest.com) – One in five kids in the U.S. ages 3-20 (15 million children) struggle with learning and attention issues. The adults in their lives often struggle to understand their issues due to misconceptions and a lack of information and resources. As a result, these children face challenges in school and life. However, through a mix of targeted intervention and support these children can thrive.
Understood.org, a comprehensive free online resource, is launching to help parents of children ages 3-20 who struggle with learning and attention issues. Created by 15 nonprofits, this online resource provides personalized information and support tools to help families understand how dyslexia, ADHD and other learning and attention issues can affect kids in and out of the classroom. In addition to empowering parents with information, the site is designed to help them make effective choices to address their children’s academic, social and emotional needs. Understood aims to cut through the confusion and give parents a clear path to the support they need to help their children go from simply coping to truly thriving.
Understood.org provides free daily access to experts through chats and webinars, a safe online community to help parents connect with and learn from each other and a suite of specially designed tools, including a series of interactive simulations that enable parents to experience first-hand their child’s issues and a “Parenting Coach” with age-specific strategies for common behavior challenges.
In addition to the website, a three-year public-service advertising (PSA) campaign developed in partnership with the Ad Council is launching today to raise awareness nationwide about learning and attention issues and connect parents to the resources, support and online community at Understood.org.
