Been around the block-Dr. Vitenas Jr. knows this arena
One of the most performed procedures in the country, breast augmentation is an area in which Dr. Vitenas has extensive experience. Over 90% of all procedure performed in his clinic are of breast augmentation with silicone implants.
Who can have breast augmentation?
Women who have small, misshapen or under developed breast and are looking to improve their aesthetics are suitable candidates for the procedure. Apart from new implant procedures, the clinic also offers its customers breast implant revision surgeries. This procedure is to address any issues with previous implants and if necessary replace damaged implants.
Breast augmentation is a long term solution to a patient’s self-consciousness about her breast size or shape. However, the implant will require to be changed after several years. Implants are designed to be rupture resistant and long lasting, however if any damage to the implant does occur a checkup would be required to determine the nature of the situation. In most cases the implant is simply replaced without issue.
The procedure and post operational care
The initial complementary consultation with the surgeon would help the patient determine which type of implant to use. There are two types that are in production; a saline filled implant and a silicone filled one. Although both have a silicone outer shell, the saline implant is filled with sterile saline solution whereas the silicone one is filled with silicone gel.
Depending upon the patient’s anatomy and consultation understandings, the implant is inserted through a small incision either under the breast under the nipple or the armpit. Once inside, the implant is placed under the pectoral muscle or over it depending upon the preference of the patient. The incision is closed with surgical sutures. The entire process is carried out in around three hours while the patient is under general anesthesia. The breast implant might be complimented with a breast lift if any drooping occurs.
After the surgery, the patient will feel soreness around the breasts accompanied with a general fatigued feeling. Appropriate pain medication might be prescribed to manage any distress caused from the operation. The patient is advised not to wear a bra for several days or even weeks after the procedure in order to allow the implants to find their natural settled position. The patient can return to their normal daily routine after two days of the surgery, however, avoiding strenuous labor would be advisable.
Silicone implants offer a more realistic aesthetic feel to them; however a larger incision is required for insertion. Saline implants can be filled after they have been inserted into the breast cavity, and require a smaller incision. Another breast augmentation procedure offered by the clinic is fat transfer method.
This method is used to transfer fat tissues from one part of the body, such as the thighs or buttocks to the breast area. This is not as effective in increasing breast size as compared to implantation, however it is a less invasive procedure and requires no maintenance afterwards.
