(HealthNewsDigest.com) – A fabulous deal of time and effort has gone into creating your ideal body. Your diet has been working and you have lost a remarkable deal of weight, you are toning yourself to create the image you have always dreamed of, yet, despite all this success, you still don’t quite look how you wanted to.
This is a common occurrence for people experiencing dramatic weight loss, and it is caused by the excess skin that is left once all the fat has been burned away. It can be a horrible side-effect of all that effort, and make you feel like all the work was for nothing.
But this is not the case. It may seem like your ideal shape or tone is out of reach, but there are always more options, and one of them is body lift surgery. Body lift comes under the category of cosmetic surgeries concerned with body contouring, and is divided into two specific areas: upper body lift and lower body lift, each specifically designed to deal with the torso and arms and the legs and buttocks/groin, respectively.
So if the idea of removing the unsightly results of your efforts seems like a magnificent idea, Dr. Christopher Davidson is the man you want to speak to.
Dr. Christopher Davidson
Native of Santa Barbara, California, Dr. Christopher Davidson graduated with highest honors in biology from Harvard. But, it wasn’t until returning from an internship studying West African art History in Ghana that he attended Harvard Medical School and developed a new passion: plastic surgery.
After being trained in Plastic Surgery at a number of notable hospitals around Massachusetts, Dr. Davidson served as Chief Resident at Mass General. Now he is known widely for his skills and precision in performing many types of plastic surgery, and for his exceptional care with his patients and his ability to produce the results they most want.
Upper and Lower Body Lift
Of the two surgical procedures related to body lifting, the upper body lift is probably the most common, as it is here that excess amounts of skin left over after sever weight loss (both naturally reduced and as a result of other fat-reducing surgeries, such as liposuction or a gastric band) can be most notable. Excessive loose skin can be unsightly, and possibly dangerous, as it can lead to mobility issues, chafing and possibly infection.
The exact nature of the procedure changes depending upon which areas of the body need to be lifted, but, generally it will begin with incisions in the upper arms which are used to remove excess tissue in these areas, and then subsequent incisions further down the body to provide the same reductions in the chest (and breasts) and stomach. Lower body lifts will begin with the stomach and move down to the legs.
The patient will be under anesthetic during the procedure, but can usually expect to be sent home to recover shortly after it is completed. Detailed instructions will be left concerning when to take medication and how to tend to bandages and draining, bruising and swelling will be present.
Recovery Time
A period of four to six weeks is expected until full recovery and reduction in swelling, but most patients have expressed being able to return to their usual daily activities within four weeks. During this time, the patient will need to be at rest, with the affected limbs in a raised position.
