No Man’s Land No More: Facial Plastic Surgery is a Guy’s Thing

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Everyone is doing it. By it, we mean facial rejuvenation procedures, and by everyone, we mean women and growing numbers of men.

The stigma associated with facial plastic surgery is all but gone. As men become aware of the natural results that can be achieved, more and more are saying yes to ‘Bro-tox,’ fillers, nose reshaping, chin fat reduction, and a host of other procedures, according to the latest statistics from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).

June is men’s health awareness month, and for many men, this may well mean a look in the mirror, and a visit with a facial plastic surgeon.

“Men are increasingly opting for facial plastic surgery to remain competitive in the workforce,” says AAFPRS President Dr. Edwin F. Williams. “They’re not all trying to look like their high school yearbook photos or anything quite so drastic, but today’s male facial plastic surgery patients crave changes that allow them to look more refreshed and in the game.”

For example, eyelid procedures to look less tired are trending among men, the AAFPRS reports.

Older dads are also interested in subtle nips and tucks, Dr. Williams says. “Some may be encouraged by their wives and girlfriends, but others want to look as young as they feel and act, especially when coaching their kids’ games or playing themselves,” he says.

It’s not just the 40 plus crowd that opts for facial plastic surgery either. There is an uptick in younger men under 35 seeking rhinoplasty, neck liposuction, chin implants, and acne scar reduction procedures, the AAFPRS annual stats show.

Nose reshaping or rhinoplasty can improve both form and function. “Men want to look better and breathe better, so it’s a win-win,” he says. “We also see our fair share of weekend warriors who experience broken noses from sports injuries.”

Neck liposuction and chin implants as well as a handful of new non-invasive options can help shape the chin and jaw area. “Studies tell us that a strong chin makes men more attractive, and men who have strong chins are more likely to ascend up the corporate ladder,” Dr. Williams says.

Acne doesn’t discriminate, and acne scars can serve as constant reminders of tumultuous teens for men who suffered from bad acne during their formative years.

“There are many new and effective ways that we can treat acne scars,” Williams says. “By using a combination of fillers, fat, microneedling and lasers and energy based devices, we can help them achieve smoother skin. Facial plastic surgery is not just about looking better, it can have profound effects on a man’s self esteem and quality of life.”

Trust Your Face to a Facial Plastic Surgeon

The AAFPRS urges consumers to select a board-certified surgeon that specializes in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck. Choosing a surgeon based on price rather than qualifications can have catastrophic results. Research surgeons and procedural information via trusted online sources (www.aafprs.org).
