Gifting and receiving aesthetic treatments is growing in popularity for both women and men, and with so many bargain deals flooding email inboxes, these sales sometimes seem too good to pass.
According to a recent American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery(AAFPRS) survey, 31 percent of men said they are “extremely likely” to consider a cosmetic procedure (surgical or non-surgical) and 44 percent of the men said they would have a treatment done to feel better about themselves. But before you head to Groupon to purchase a treatment for your honey, consider safety over savings. The AAFPRS warns that the procedure might be a deal, but is not necessarily the best idea. If not performed by a qualified professional, issues can range from cosmetic dissatisfaction to critical injury.
“Be aware of bargains and online sales for aesthetic treatments, especially during this holiday season,” says William Truswell, MD, facial plastic surgeon and president of the AAFPRS. “When selecting a discount offer, the excitement at getting the ‘deal’ may overshadow selecting a qualified and board certified provider. The aspect of an individualized treatment plan is also missing. Cosmetic treatments are not one size fits all.”
The AAFPRS urges consumers to select a board-certified facial plastic surgeon who specializes in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck. Research providers and the treatment information via trusted online sources before scheduling your cosmetic procedure. Review before/after options and don’t be afraid to ask tough questions about background and credentials.
The bottom line? “Trust your face to a facial plastic surgeon,” says the AAFPRS. You’ll look amazing for the holiday and New Year and stay safe and healthy in the process.
